RAINWATER HARVESTING: WHY RECOVER THE RAINWATER
Rainwater, collected, filtered and stored in a suitable way, is an alternative source of high quality water that makes it possible to replace drinking water for some activities. Rainwater recovery must be regarded as an environmen- tal and economic solution. We should not waste drinking water with it cost for uses that are not necessary. To store good quality rainwater, it must be filtered and the par- ticles, leaves, small animals, etc. removed.
Therefore, water from rain must be recovered mainly from roofs, because they are zones that people do not generally walk on, and so the water is of better quality. It must be pointed out that, if your roofing contains asbes- tos cement or lead, the water cannot be used inside your home.
About 50% of the water we use does not have to be drinking water. Filtered rainwater is sufficient for wate- ring purposes.
