The pretreated water is streamed over the bacterial bed of a spe- cific mass of material (50 to 200 m2· m-3) serving as substrate for the microorganisms that form a film of variable thickness on it. Aeration is done by natural draft.
STEPS:
The digester-decanter receives all the domestic wastewater from the house and pretreats it. Composed of two compartments in which the decanting (faster than in a septic tank) and the digestion of the organic material present in the wastewater take place. An- aerobic bacteria, without oxygen, are responsible for metabolising organic matter by gasifying, hydrolysing and mineralising it.
Biological perculator filter: The microorganisms present in the wastewater and the oxygen supply by natural draft bring about the oxidation of the organic material. Use of a high-performance plastic substrate ensures the process is more effective and avoids the main- tenance problems of mineral substrates.
